THE APPLICATION OF REAL-WORLD MODELS IN THE ENGINEERING DRAWING COURSE AT HO CHI MINH CITY UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY – VIETNAM NATIONAL UNIVERSITY HO CHI MINH CITY
Main Article Content
Abstract
Mastery of “Engineering Drawing” requires students to develop sufficient spatial thinking ability. Yet, such ability varies markedly across learners with different cognitive profiles and learning styles. To address these challenges, lecturers in the Department of Engineering Drawing at the Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, VNU-HCM, have researched how to apply real-world models to address abstract concepts in the course. This approach aims to diversify instructional methods, scaffold knowledge acquisition, and create learning conditions that accommodate diverse spatial thinking abilities. The use of real-world models was found to facilitate deeper engagement with course content and promote more effective exploration of engineering representations. Survey results show that over 50% of students strongly agreed that their spatial thinking ability improved through this method, while 75% of students strongly affirmed that the overall effectiveness of this approach.
