NAM KINH BAC KINH – ROMANIZED VERSE-NARRATIVE IN SOUTHERN VIETNAM ADAPTED FROM OLD SCRIPTS

Abstract

Nam Kinh Bac Kinh is a verse-narrative written in Vietnamese Romanized script in Southern Vietnam, which was adapted from the Nom narrative poetry entitled The Story of Nam Kinh Bac Kinh and verse-narratives written in Vietnamese Romanized script which were previously published in the South of Vietnam. In this paper, the three publications of the verse-narrative written in Vietnamese Romanized script in Southern VietnamNam Kinh Bac Kinh, which were produced by Dang Le Nghi, Nguyen Ba Thoi and Khau Vo Nghi were under insightful investigation. This paper aims to apply the adaptation theory to analyze the publication types, plots, and poetic language used in these verse-narratives compared with the original work. The findings mainly emphasizes the creative aspects in the verse-narrative written in Vietnamese Romanized script, highlights the significant contributions in introducing new values that were relevant to the era of adapted works.
