THE ART OF RECREATING CUSTOMS AND PRACTICES TAM TRIEU VUA LY BY HOANG QUOC HAI
Main Article Content
Abstract
Hoang Quoc Hai's Tam Trieu Vua Ly (Eight Dynasties of Ly Kings). Through rich imagination combined with official and unofficial historical sources, the work transports readers into the vibrant ceremonial atmosphere and festive celebrations of the Ly Dynasty period. The study analyzes the portrayal of traditional court aristocratic rituals, including the magnificent public presentation ceremony of King Ly Thai To to the people of Thang Long, the simple yet warm birthday celebration of King Thuan Thien at Tap Hien Palace, King Ly Thanh Tong's matrimonial ceremony conducted with the participation of Buddhist monks, and the solemn Tich Dien agricultural ritual organized by King Ly Thai Tong. Additionally, the work vividly recreates folk festivals and communal celebrations, exemplified by the wedding ceremony of the couple San and Lan in Tho Loi village, which authentically embodies Vietnamese cultural traditions from betrothal and formal proposal ceremonies to the wedding ritual itself, as well as the spirited competitions among villagers during King Ly Thanh Tong's matrimonial festival... Through this artistic representation, the work enables contemporary readers to experience the rich and dynamic spiritual culture of the Ly Dynasty, thereby fostering national pride and strengthening awareness of preserving Vietnamese cultural identity.
