Abstract

The Confucian ideology, with its enduring presence and development over thousands of years, has exerted a direct influence on both the content and the modes of literary composition among premodern Vietnamese authors. The article focuses on clarifying this influence from the perspective of content. In the court poetry composed by royal authors, the impact of Confucian thought is vividly manifested in their expressions of national pride, the affirmation of dynastic legitimacy, the sacralized perception of the Nguyễn royal lineage, and the lyrical praise of the country's natural beauty during times of peace and prosperity. These themes reflect the dynastic ideal and the noble aspiration shared by the princes and princesses who possessed the hearts of poets. To fulfill such lofty ideals, they continuously engaged in the cultivation of personal virtue, striving to live up to their roles as moral exemplars and guides of society.
