A HOLISTIC VISION OF THE WORLD IN BÍCH KHÊ’S SYMBOLIST POETRY
Main Article Content
Abstract
During the formation and development of the New Poetry movement in Vietnam, particularly within the symbolist trend, Bich Khe is considered an outstanding poet in the field of symbolic poetry in Vietnam in the 1932-1945 period. Discussions of Bich Khe’s poetry often focus on three key aspects: painting of the nude in written words, poetry of fragrance and musicality, and of surrealistic and symbolic techniques. Bich Khe transports readers to profound levels of perception, encompassing not only dreams and illusions but also the subconscious and hallucinations. Therefore, exploring the symbolic world in Bich Khe’s poetry could not only deepen our understanding and appreciation of his work but also provide an opportunity to gain a more accurate insight into various other poetic phenomena in contemporary Vietnamese literature. On these grounds, the article examines the holistic vision of the symbolic world in Bich Khe’s poetry to highlight his distinctive contributions to Vietnamese symbolic poetry during the 1932–1945 period, in particular, and to modern Vietnamese poetry, in general.
