THE ART OF REPETITION IN LI QINGZHAO’S SONG CI
Main Article Content
Abstract
Li Qingzhao stands as one of the great female authors in ancient Chinese literature, achieving a level of artistry on par with her male counterparts. She made significant contributions to the genre by establishing an aesthetic rooted in the concepts of "Bie shi yi jia" (别是一家) and "Ci bi xie lü" (词必协律). These principles emphasize the expression of beauty through tonality, necessitating harmony between words and music while maintaining a clear distinction from poetry. This article approaches Li Qingzhao's writings through the lens of her mastery in employing repetition as a literary device. By analyzing the original meanings of Chinese characters and comparing them with Vietnamese translations, the article demonstrates the effectiveness of repetition in Li Qingzhao's works. Her skillful use of repetition vividly depicts and evokes emotions, predominantly those of sadness, grief, pain, and melancholy, imbuing the evoked spaces with a similarly somber and desolate ambiance that mirrors her emotional state. Ultimately, the article showcases Li Qingzhao's exceptional talent in harnessing the art of repetition, as well as the musical beauty inherent in her ci compositions.
