FACTORS INFLUENCING MATHEMATICS TEACHER EDUCATION STUDENTS’ SELF - ASSESSMENT OF GEOMETRY TEACHING SKILLS IN A CULTURAL HERITAGE CONTEXT IN VIETNAM
Main Article Content
Abstract
The article aims to identify and analyze factors affecting the self-assessment of teaching skills in geometry integrated with cultural heritage among pre-service mathematics teachers in Vietnam. The study employs a quantitative approach with a sample of 219 students from three universities in Northern Vietnam. Data were collected through a questionnaire consisting of 21 observed variables across three groups of factors: cognition; instructional design competence and the use of heritage-based teaching materials; and the training environment and self-directed professional development. These factors were measured using a five-point Likert scale. The measurement scales were validated using Cronbach’s Alpha, combined with exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and linear regression analysis. The results indicate that the model demonstrates good fit and statistical significance, with instructional design competence and the use of heritage-based teaching materials exerting the strongest influence (β = 0.695; p < 0.001). The study highlights the necessity of adjusting mathematics teacher education curricula and teaching approaches to enhance the effective integration of cultural heritage into mathematics instruction at the secondary school level.
