FACTORS INFLUENCING MATHEMATICS TEACHER EDUCATION STUDENTS’ SELF - ASSESSMENT OF GEOMETRY TEACHING SKILLS IN A CULTURAL HERITAGE CONTEXT IN VIETNAM
Main Article Content
Abstract
This study aimed to identify and analyze factors affecting pre-service mathematics teachers’ self-assessment of geometry teaching skills in a cultural heritage context in Vietnam. It used a quantitative approach with 219 students from three universities in northern Vietnam. Data were collected using a questionnaire comprising 21 observed variables in three groups: cognition; lesson design skills and the use of heritage-based teaching materials; and the training environment and self-directed professional development. The variables were measured on a five-point Likert scale. Data were analyzed using Cronbach’s alpha, exploratory factor analysis (EFA), and linear regression. The results indicate that the model fit the data well and was statistically significant, with lesson design competence and the use of heritage-based teaching materials showing the strongest influence (β = 0.695; p < 0.001). The study highlights the need to revise mathematics teacher education curricula and teaching approaches to integrate cultural heritage more effectively into secondary-school mathematics instruction.
