Abstract

The Hematology External Quality Assessment (EQA) Program is one of the compulsory programs for laboratories in Vietnam. Implementing the EQA program requires materials that are reference material bio-samples. The research used the results of 60 participating laboratories to evaluate the results for three parameters: red blood cells (RBCs), white blood cells (WBCs), and platelets (PLTs). Laboratory results were evaluated using the coefficient of variation (CV%) and the z-score in 12 months by two groups of measurement methods (optical and impedance). The test results of the laboratories were analyzed by two groups: impedance measurement devices (Horiba ABX ABC Vet, Sysmex XP Series, Mindray BC 2000), optical measuring devices (Sysmex XN series, Horiba Yumizen H500, Mindray BC) 5100). Research results show that CV% on optical devices is lower than impedance measurement. The mean z-score was not acceptable mainly in white blood cell parameters. The percentage of laboratories failing to pass the z-score gradually decreased over 12 months. Laboratories participating in the hematology EQA Programs have improved significantly. The application of hematological reference samples provided by domestic units helps to be independent in  technology and improve medical examination capacity.
