JAPAN’S AND SOUTH KOREA’S CULTURAL DIPLOMACY: LESSONS LEARNED FOR VIETNAM

Abstract
Cultural diplomacy is a form of using culture to enhance the effectiveness of diplomatic affairs, as well to promote national culture through the growing interconnectedness created by cultural products. Using a qualitative approach that synthesizes and analyzes secondary data, this article shows a significant rise in both the quantity and quality of cultural exchanges between Vietnam and Japan as well as between Vietnam and South Korea, in the post–Cold War era. These developments have contributed significantly to the increases in trade, tourism, and educational exchanges among the three countries. Meanwhile, the promotion of cultural exchange and effectiveness of cultural diplomacy have also strengthened mutual understanding, creating a foundation and motivation for cooperation in other aspects while reinforcing Vietnam’s position on the international stage.
