Abstract

The history of the Nguyen Dynasty has long served as a source of inspiration for writers of historical fiction. The female writer Tran Thuy Mai has contributed significantly to this tradition through her two historical novels, Tu Du Thai Hau and Cong Chua Dong Xuan, which place historical female characters at the center of the narrative to re-examine the role of women in the nation’s historical development. The article examines historical discourse with female subjects in these two novels by analyzing women’s perspectives on important historical events, the construction of women as central historical agents, and the re-evaluation of men’s roles within a specific historical context. Through this approach, the article affirms the creative spirit and historical interpretation of the Nguyen Dynasty from the perspective of female writers.
