Abstract

In this work, MOF-801 was successfully synthesized by incorporating the fumaric acid linker and Zr4+ salt by the solvothermal procedure. Full characterizations of MOF-801 were analyzed through physicochemical methods such as powder X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, and surface morphology analyses. Noteworthily, the maximum Cr(VI) adsorption capacity onto MOF-801 is 103.9 mg·g-1 at pH = 2, much higher than previously published MOF materials. Besides, the gained data of the Cr(VI) uptake is fitted with Langmuir isotherm and pseudo-second-order models, indicating that the Cr(VI) adsorption over MOF-801 is a chemical adsorption. In particular, the architectural stability of MOF-801 is maintained after adsorption, with the uptake efficiency of Cr(VI) without any significant loss after seven consecutive cycles. These results show that MOF-801 could be a promising absorbent in removing highly toxic Cr(VI) from an aqueous medium.
