Abstract

This article examines the development of the invariant and the variable within the Biblical motif of the “Prodigal Son” as represented in selected works - an issue that has received little scholarly attention. Three principal research methods are employed: comparative analysis, typology in folklore studies, and interdisciplinary approaches. Drawing on motif theory, the study analyzes the structure of the core motif and the stages of its manifestation in each text. Furthermore, grounded in the Bible, Christian theology, and philosophy, and situated within the dynamics of historical change, the article highlights the shared features of Christian literature in the two national traditions, thereby laying the foundation for future intersections between Vietnamese and Russian literatures.
