THE CURRENT SITUATION OF ONLINE LIBRARY RESPONSIVENESS TO USER NEEDS AT TEACHER TRAINING UNIVERSITIES
Main Article Content
Abstract
In the context of digital transformation and international integration, online libraries are increasingly playing a central role in teaching and research activities at universities. This study aims to evaluate the current responsiveness of online libraries to user needs at Vietnamese teacher training universities. A mixed-methods approach was employed, combining 2,180 quantitative survey responses from seven key pedagogical universities with 10 semi-structured interviews to supplement qualitative data. The findings reveal that users highly value printed resources, particularly textbooks and reference books, while digital materials and electronic databases, though rated as fairly useful, have not fully realized their potential due to limitations in scope, outdated content, and inconsistencies in digitization. Interview data further confirm the essential role of printed resources alongside persistent challenges in accessing and utilizing digital resources. The study proposes several solutions: (1) strengthening digitization and updating academic resources; (2) enhancing users’ information literacy skills; (3) promoting interlibrary connectivity and resource sharing among institutions; and (4) investing in technological infrastructure and user support services. The results provide both theoretical and practical implications for improving library services, thereby contributing to the enhancement of teaching and research quality at teacher training universities.
