DESIGNING EXERCISES FOR “ENERGY AND TRANSFORMATION” IN 6TH GRADE NATURAL SCIENCES TO DEVELOP STUDENTS’ COMPETENCIES OF APPLICATION

Abstract
Enhancing students’ competencies in applying knowledge is one of the key and consistent objectives of the current Vietnamese general education. With the topic “Energy and Transformation” in 6th-grade Natural Sciences, this competency can be developed through various methods, including the use of exercises. This paper reports the results of designing exercises aimed at developing this competency. The study proposes a procedure for designing exercises linked to real-life contexts, combined with the suggested framework of behaviors and criteria to assess this competency. An experiment was conducted to verify the effectiveness of this procedure. The results indicate that the use of exercises improves students’ competencies to apply knowledge, while also enhancing their engagement and motivation. This study contributes to improving the effectiveness of teaching
Natural Sciences.
