EXPLORING THE PERCEPTIONS AND CURRENT SITUATION OF PRE-SERVICE AND IN-SERVICE PHYSICS TEACHERS IN IMPLEMENTING CAREER-INTEGRATED STEM ACTIVITIES: A MIXED-METHODS STUDY
Main Article Content
Abstract
The paper presents the current situation and perceptions regarding the implementation of STEM activities integrated with career education among 18 pre-service Physics teachers at Ho Chi Minh City University of Education and 38 in-service Physics teachers from several provinces. Data were collected through a Google Form comprising 21 Likert-scale questions and 5 open-ended questions. The results show that the implementation of these activities still faces certain limitations, particularly in scientific and technical research activities. However, both pre-service and in-service teachers hold positive views of the benefits of integrating STEM activities with career education in Physics teaching. In addition to the limited understanding of STEM careers among both groups, teachers also encounter challenges related to professional competence, students’ characteristics, curriculum pressure, and inadequate facilities. Nevertheless, the desire to enhance students’ physics competence and career orientation has motivated both pre-service and in-service teachers to organize such activities in the future. These findings have implications for administrators, educators, and teachers in developing appropriate strategies to guide and improve STEM activities integrated with career education in response to current trends in educational innovation.
