Abstract

The development and use of digital learning materials in teacher education and professional development have increasingly attracted attention as a means of enhancing learners’ self-study and independent inquiry. Integrated teaching competence is one of the key professional competencies that should be fostered in pre-service lower secondary Science teachers to meet the objectives of Vietnam’s 2018 General Education Curriculum. This article presents the principles and procedures for designing and using a system of digital learning materials aimed at fostering integrated teaching competence among pre-service Science teachers. Evaluation results from six experts and thirty-three pre-service lower secondary Science teachers indicate that the developed system demonstrates strong content validity, appropriate format, and considerable diversity and richness in the digital materials produced. Findings from a pedagogical experiment conducted with a class of fourteen third-year pre-service lower secondary Science teachers at Ho Chi Minh City University of Education provide initial evidence of the effectiveness of these digital learning materials in supporting the development of integrated teaching competence.
