Main Article Content
Abstract
This paper presents the findings of a study on the current competency of general education teachers in An Giang province (Kien Giang) while implementing the 2018 General Education Program. The research employs a mixed-methods design, combining a quantitative survey (of 9,076 teachers) with in-depth interviews to provide a comprehensive picture of the current situation and challenges facing teachers. The results indicate that the teaching staff has begun to develop several core competencies, such as planning lessons aimed at developing student qualities and competencies, innovating teaching methods, and using new assessment tools. However, many teachers still face difficulties in continuous professional development and in applying knowledge from training to classroom practice. This is particularly evident in competencies related to new reform requirements, such as integrated teaching, differentiated instruction, and organizing experiential activities, especially at the high school level. These findings provide a crucial basis for developing teacher development solutions tailored to the specific context of the province.
