TEACHER COMPETENCE IN IMPLEMENTING THE 2018 GENERAL EDUCATION CURRICULUM IN AN GIANG PROVINCE: CURRENT SITUATION AND CHALLENGES

Abstract
This paper presents the findings of a study on the current competence of teachers in An Giang province (Kien Giang) while implementing the 2018 General Education Curriculum (2018 GEC). Using a mixed-methods design, this study found that teachers have begun to develop several core competencies, including designing lesson plans oriented toward competency-based education, innovating teaching methods, and using new assessment tools. However, many teachers still face difficulties in continuous professional development and transferring knowledge from training programs into classroom practice. These challenges are particularly evident in competencies related to the reform’s requirements, such as integrated teaching, differentiated instruction, and organization of experiential learning at high schools. These findings provide an important foundation for proposing targeted teacher development solutions suited to the province’s specific educational context.
