A STUDY ON SELF-COMPASSION AMONG UNIVERSITY STUDENTS
Main Article Content
Abstract
This study presents survey results on self-compassion among students at several universities in Ho Chi Minh City. Employing a cross-sectional design with a sample of 488 students, the study used the Self-Compassion Scale (SCS-26 scale) (Neff, 2003) as the main instrument. The results indicate that students demonstrate a moderate overall level of self-compassion. Among the six components of self-compassion, the mean scores ranked from highest to lowest are Common Humanity, Mindfulness, Self-Kindness, Isolation, Self-Judgment, and Over-Identification. Further analyses across demographic and academic variables, including academic major, academic performance, economic background, and especially childhood experiences, reveal statistically significant differences in students’ levels of self-compassion.
