Abstract

In the era of Industry 4.0, knowledge can be accessed with a single click; therefore, the goals of education must shift from knowledge transmission to skills development. The 2018 General Education Curriculum for Physics emphasizes that learners should be able to apply scientific process skills to explore and solve problems from a physics perspective. However, current teaching equipment does not adequately support this objective in the topic of momentum conservation. Existing laboratory apparatus on the market mainly facilitates the study of collisions between two objects along a straight line, which does not fully represent the law of conservation of momentum in terms of vector addition and may lead to misconceptions based on simple algebraic addition or subtraction. In this study, we designed a new experimental apparatus, which was granted a patent by the Intellectual Property Office in May 2025. This apparatus enables low-cost investigation of momentum conservation in collisions between two objects moving on a plane.
